Overview

The Pioneer Park Precinct, Wellington, suffered extensive flood damage to public infrastructure and the banks of the Bell River through 2022/2023.

Council has been successful in securing $1.8 million in grant funding to help restore the natural environment and make repairs to public infrastructure. The works in the area will include:

  • Installation of bank stabilisation measures and planting of endemic species
  • Widening of the eastern access road to allow 2-way vehicular access reconstruction of the internal path system using flood resistant materials
  • Reconnection of the path system from the new bridge through to Showground Road
  • Renewal of the Pioneer Park irrigation system & rehabilitation of the former western carpark back to a natural state.
