Overview
The Renewable Energy Awareness and Career Training (REACT) Centre is an initiative set to be delivered in Wellington within the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ). This project aims to support the renewable energy transition by providing a skilled workforce for the sector and creating long-term benefits for the local community.
REACT will create training and employment opportunities, including youth and disadvantaged communities in the region. A key focus will be providing career pathways into the renewable energy sector for both the CWO REZ and other renewable energy zones across NSW. The renewable energy career training centre will offer vocational and technical skills training through partnerships with industry and educational providers. This centre will provide targeted training opportunities for various local groups, including youth, Aboriginal people, local business people, and disadvantaged cohort. By addressing socio-economic disadvantages and improving educational and career opportunities, the project aims to enhance long-term life prospects for the Wellington community.
The REACT project brings significant benefits to the Wellington community, such as economic growth and job creation. The investment of $11.25 million for REACT, funded by the NSW Government REZ Legacy Fund, is expected to generate 12 full-time equivalent construction jobs and 5 ongoing jobs in Wellington, along with numerous indirect jobs in sectors such as hospitality, retail, and tourism.
To ensure success, REACT will rely on strong partnerships across community, industry, education, and the business sector.
