Overview

The Molong Street Bridge Replacement Project is upgrading the existing wooden bridge located within the village of Stuart Town.

The project includes the demolition of the existing wooden bridge and the subsequent construction of a new concrete bridge. The new structure will be built on essentially the same alignment as the old bridge and will enhance safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

A detour route will be established for the duration of the project along Bell Street and Alexander Streets while the road is closed for the duration of construction. Road users are encouraged to drive safely and be aware of the works to the side of the road.

The total project budget is $1,259,731.50 including NSW Government grant funding of $990,066.00 and is expected to be complete in early 2025.

🏗️Project scope

At a glance, the scope of this project will include:

  • Construction of an 8m long and 10m wide concrete bridge.
    • Two 3.5m travel lanes
    • Two 0.5m shoulders
  • Widen the bridge primarily on the western side of the road.
  • Build and connect existing drains and directs runoff to the creek.
  • Construct a new 2.5m wide shared pathway linking the bridge to Alexander Street.
  • Install new kerb and gutter, including kerb returns.
  • Reuse and reinstall the existing guardrail on the new bridge approaches.
  • Perform pavement rehabilitation on Molong Street from Alexander Street to the existing dish drain.
  • Recycle and reuse basalt bluestone stone pitching for rock armour around the base of the abutments on the new bridge.

🚧Impacts to community

There will be minor impacts for the duration, these will include:

  • Temporary road closures on Molong Street with detours via Alexander and Bell Streets
  • Minor traffic delays for properties along the detour route
  • Increased traffic for properties along the detour route
  • Pedestrian access to the bridge will be closed during construction

We are grateful to the Stuart Town community for working with Council in the delivery of this project. Staff will liaise with impacted residents to understand and minimise disruptions where negotiable.
