Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) has completed temporary road maintenance on Sheraton Road to improve road conditions and enhance pedestrian safety, linking existing pathways from Boundary Road to Dubbo Sportsworld. This project included drainage maintenance, sealed gravel footpath installation and heavy patching pavement repairs across a six week period.

Works were completed on weekends and during the school holiday period to reduce the impact on traffic and school users in the area.

Council has also installed 800m of bitumen sealed footpath along the western side of Sheraton Road linking the existing footpaths on Boundary Road to the footpath fronting Dubbo Sportsworld, which will provide a much safer journey for students walking to and from schools.

The long-term strategy is for the heavy haulage route to be via the southern distributor to the Mitchell Highway, with a proposed interim haulage route via Capital Drive and Blueridge Drive to the Mitchell Highway. Community consultation for the Blueridge Link Road construction has closed and will be considered at a future Council meeting.

DRC Mayor Mathew Dickerson noted that the work was strategically scheduled during weekends and school holidays to minimize disruption. Funding for this project came from a planning agreement with Regional Group.

The long-term goal is to redirect heavy haulage traffic from Sheraton Road to a route via the southern distributor to the Mitchell Highway, with an interim route proposed via Capital Drive and Blueridge Drive. Community input on the Blueridge Link Road construction has been considered and will be addressed in an upcoming Council meeting.
