Overview
Essential Energy is working with Dubbo Regional Council to enhance the street lighting network by transitioning to LED technology, aimed at delivering greater cost savings to the community.
Starting on 27 November, the project will last for two weeks. During this time, Essential Energy crews will use scissor lifts to access the luminaires for the replacement work.
To minimize the impact on the community and reduce disruptions to traffic and parking, the following measures will be in place:
- Work will begin early in the morning and conclude by midday.
- The scissor lift will only operate on the footpath with pedestrian control in place. When the lift needs to cross the road, a designated crossing and traffic control will be used.
LED lighting is exceptionally efficient when converting electricity into light. Furthermore, the supply of materials for the aging High Pressure Sodium (HPS) globes is dwindling as the industry is making the transition to LED technology.
The implementation of energy-efficient street lighting aligns with the central goals of the Council's Energy Strategy and Implementation Plan 2020-2025. Designed to support and guide Council in reducing energy consumption, increasing energy efficiency, increasing the use and adoption of renewable energy resources and sustainable transport while taking into account the needs and desires of a growing community.
