Overview

Operated and owned by Council, Dubbo Regional Livestock Markets strategically located at the intersection of the Newell Highway and Boothenba Road. Since its establishment, the livestock market has undergone substantial growth, transitioning from a modest monthly sales operation to the expansive facility which boast more than 1.3M sheep and 200,00 cattle are sold each year.

The livestock markets recently embarked on a service review program, to explore the most effective business structure. The review explored three models, which form part of this EOI process that will further inform decision making.

  • Our intent

    • Understand the potential market for private saleyards, including interested parties and their sale and leasing preferences
    • Assess the capability of the market to operate the DRLM as an ongoing, viable commercial business
    • Gain a commitment to the EOI to the long-term operations of the DRLM as a livestock saleyard.

  • Our objective

    • Achieving the best outcomes for the Dubbo community and economy for the long-term cumulative benefits
    • Ensure the long-term sustainability and viability of the DRLM for the benefit of all stakeholders
    • Endeavour to operate the DRLM as a financially self-sufficient commercial asset, whilst maintaining compliance with legislative and animal welfare requirements.

  • Our decision

    • Lease the facility (Landlord agreement)
    • Sale of both the freehold and leasehold
    • Remain Council owned and operated facility, with a new service approach to ensure financially self-sufficient commercial asset.
