Dubbo Regional Council and Narromine Shire Council are in the final stages of developing The Central Orana Regional Drought Resilience Plan (RDRP). This plan aims to build community resilience during drought and establish a proactive approach to drought events for both the short and long term.
The successful grant application was a collaboration between Dubbo Regional Council and Narromine Shire Council, which received $200,000 from the Regional Drought Resilience Planning (RDRP) round 2 Grant.
Independent consultants were appointed to undertake community engagement activities that are inclusive, accessible and reflect our communities to harness insights in the development and implementation of the Drought Resilience Plan. The plan and the variation funding for action implementation have been approved by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
As a part of the implementation of key activities, both councils are organising a Drought Preparedness Roadshow event from 25 – 29 August at locations in Dubbo, Wellington, and Narromine. The roadshow will feature expert-led panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and the screening of the powerful film "Just a Farmer." Attendees will learn about topics including mental health and wellbeing, diversification, sustainable farming, financial planning, and business innovation.
