A Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) is a practical roadmap that shows how an organisation will create more accessible, inclusive and welcoming services, spaces and experiences for people with disability.

It sets out clear actions to remove barriers, improve access, and make sure people with lived experience of disability are included in decision making.

Because it helps ensure everyone in our community can access our services, spaces and information fairly and with dignity.

It’s also a legal requirement for Councils, and provides a clear, accountable way to identify barriers, listen to people with lived experience, and take practical action to improve inclusion.

Positive Attitudes

• Active advocacy and collaboration through networks, alliances, and community events.
• Promotion of positive disability representation across DRC platforms and recognition programs.

Liveability

• Improved accessibility across DRC facilities, libraries, pools, and public spaces.
• Ongoing planning and regulatory guidance to support accessible urban design and development.

Meaningful Employment

• Supportive recruitment practices for people with diverse needs.
• Reasonable workplace adjustments to enable effective participation.

Systems and Processes

• Enhanced accessibility tools and information sharing across DRC digital platforms.
• Regular updates to public accessibility resources (e.g., toilet app, MLAK amenities, awareness campaigns).

Progress on the implementation of the actions within the plan are reported through our integrated planning and reporting. We also report to the NSW Government at the end of each year on our progress.

We're engaging directly with people with disability, their families, and both informal and formal carers. We also work closely with our Disability Inclusion Action Plan Reference Group, local disability agency networks, and the broader community to ensure a wide range of voices and lived experiences help shape our decisions.

We're ensuring everyone has the opportunity to contribute their feedback through a variety of engagement methods including online, paper surveys and in person consultation sessions. Our websites are also supported by an accessibility widget which enables people to tailor their settings, language and enhancements to suit individual needs.

Results from the survey will be used to help develop the draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan. This will be placed on public exhibition at a later date for further consultation and feedback.
