Overview

The Australia Day Awards Ceremonies will take place in Dubbo and Wellington in 2026. These events will include an award presentation, a citizenship ceremony, and activities to entertain members of the community.

We’re seeking community input to guide the activities that will follow the formal ceremonies. To help influence what activities you would like to see at these community events, please complete the below survey.

This survey will be open from 19 May 2025 to 10 June 2025.

Carried Motions:
- That the report of the Governance Team Leader be noted.
- That the Australia Day awards for the Dubbo Local Government area consist of:
a. Citizen of the Year
b. Senior Citizen of the Year
c. Young Citizen of the Year
d. Services to Sport
e. Sports Person of the Year
f. Young Sports Person of the Year
g. Services to The Arts (Dubbo only)
h. Community Group of the Year (Dubbo only)
i. Community Event of the Year (Wellington only).
- That Council consult with the community to ascertain expectations and suggestions for what type of activities they would like to see alongside the Civic Ceremonies.
- That at the conclusion of the community consultation a Councillor workshop be held to discuss the options.
- That a further report be brought to the Ordinary Council meeting in July 2025 for determination.

Council meeting

A report for the Public Consultation - Australia Day Events - Dubbo and Wellington will be presented to Council at the Ordinary Council Meeting, 5:30pm Tuesday 22 July 2025.

Carried Motions:
1. That the information with the report be noted.
2. That the Ceremony and Events for Wellington be held in Cameron Park, or in the case of inclement weather, in the Wellington Civic Centre, on Sunday 25 January 2026, starting at 6:30pm, with activities similar to previous years.
3. That the Ceremony and Events for Dubbo be held in Victoria Park, or in the case of inclement weather in the Dubbo Civic Centre, on Sunday 25 January 2026, starting at 8am, with various activities and including working with the Dubbo Rotunda Markets.
